Liverpool's up and coming 'Wonder-boy' striker-Dirk Kuyt
RAFA'S KUYT VERDICT: NOT BAD! Paul Rogers 27 August 2006
Rafael Benitez proved himself the new king of the understatement when he summed up Dirk Kuyt's astonishing all-action cameo appearance on Saturday against West Ham as 'Not bad'.
Kuyt played less than 40 minutes on his debut as fans celebrated 100 years of the Kop in style with a 2-1 win but the Dutch international still managed to find the time to almost grab a hat-trick, set up a wrongly disallowed goal for Craig Bellamy and complete a lap of honour - applauding every corner of Anfield before leaving the field. As debuts go, it was quite something. For Benitez though, it was nothing less than he had expected from his latest recruit. "I think there is always room for improvement," claimed Rafa, "but when you analyse his first day, he played 40 minutes and had three or four chances which is not bad for a striker. I didn't have to say anything to him before the game. He is an experienced player and I have confidence in him. He knows what to do. Shooting and creating chances for himself was the idea and he did that."
